Several of Town's injury worries are likely to take part in tomorrow's game at Leyton Orient (KO 7.45). Jamie Clapham, John Scales and James Scowcroft are in the squad, although there is no place for Gary Croft. John McGreal and Mark Venus are in the reserve line-up for tonight's match at Hitchin as they are recovering from injury and an operation respectively. Tony Mowbray is in both squads as he is that hard. Claus Jensen could be about to sign for Town in a deal worth £4 million. Bolton Wanderers accepted Town's new offer after originally turning down a Town approach at around the £3.5 million mark. It is being reported that the Dane on his way to Ipswich and is ready to talk terms with George Burley before joining Town on their pre-season tour of the Baltic. It is also being reported that Charlton have had a similar offer accepted by Sam Allardyce's club and they could jump in if Town fail to agree a deal with Jensen. Of the Jensen transfer George Burley said today: “I don’t anticipate anything happening today but we are doing our best to tie things up in time for the player to join us on our pre-season tour. Richard Wright's agent, the ever popular Jonathan Barnett, has said that he doubts there will be any new discussions between his client and Town. The agent said: "I don't think there will be any more contact with Ipswich in the foreseeable future. Richard just wants to get on with playing his football for Ipswich and helping them stay in the Premiership". With no club coming in for Wright and no new contract signed Town will have to tread very cautiously in order to get as much as possible for Wright from any transfer. Sticking him in the reserves would reduce any fee as would ostracising Wright in any other way. As usual with Town the allocation of the 33,800 tickets the Blues have been allocated is hugely complicated. But here goes. Gary Croft and Manu Thetis are both out to prove their fitness in today'd reserve game at Oxford United. Crof has recovered far more quickly than expected from his gash sustained against Huddersfield whilst Manu is back after an ankle injury cut short the first game of his return from a hamstring problem. If they do well both could find themselves in the side for Saturday's game with Portsmouth. Croft in place of loanee Michael Clegg and Thetis in place of the injured John McGreal. With Gary Croft now added to the legion of injured defenders the possibility of a defensive loanee looks ever more likely. Last week George Burley dismissed bringing in a centre-half on loan even though Manu Thetis, Mark Venus, Adam Tanner and Titus Bramble are all injured. He added that other players including Croft could play at centre-half if required. Out of prison Town star Gary Croft may start Saturday's game with bottom of the table Swindon. The electronically tagged defender came through yesterday's 1-0 reserve win over Gillingham with manager George Burley commenting afterwards: ""He will be in contention for Saturday's home game against Swindon. I was very pleased with how he came through the game. He is a naturally fit and very enthusiastic boy who is happy to get back playing." With Fabian Wilnis suspended there seems every chance that Croft will get an early chance to make amends for his rather troubled start at Town. |
